I tend to use it to estimate how many users of an online thing involving user-generated content will likely actually generate content, but yes, it can be applied more broadly. As I cycled through various points of view about these objectives/goals, your post suddenly fell across my thoughts like an overlay, making sense of a dozen disparate thoughts. The thing is, I agree about the basic idea underlying the 90-9-1 principle, but I've always applied it narrowly to storytelling, when it truth it applies to much of my life. And that realization -- sitting there in my truck, waiting for the light to change -- is one of the more useful things that have pinballed through my brain recently. So thank you.
