Yes, I am trying to make some minor tweaks to the look of this site. Not easy as TypePad has quite a clumsy interface and it doesn’t support Safari… Perhaps I will make the switch to WordPress sooner than planned.

I would definitely recommend wordpress. Though I haven’t really used TypePad or many other packages, it basically does everything you could want. Lots of plugins too.
I second the recommendation for WordPress. My little short-lived blog was a bit of a struggle to configure initially, but mostly because I’m picky about functionality and I wanted it exactly the way I wanted it.
The good news is that I was able to get it exactly the way I wanted it.
Some of the hacks can be confusing — such as the way a three-column layout is forced in CSS — but it works. And I don’t ever remember it breaking once I got it stable.
Lots of templates, lots of user-driven support, some WP support through their site, and in general a solid product.
